I feel that this quote speaks to educators and parents who are the biggest influencers in a child's life. As a parent or educator, you have to provide a positive learning environment in which the child can grow and learn and be productive. I am a mother and I feel that it is my job and mission to help guide my child and provide an environment in which he will receive the most available and best education provided. Once I become an educator, I have to treat my students the same way as I would treat my child. My mission will be to educate those who are willing to learn and also open doors to those who are not fortunate to receive a proper education elsewhere.
I enjoyed reading this post. Parents should be the first educators. I commend you for establishing a mission early and understanding that the environment you create for your child influences learning. Some parents sadly believe that it's only the teachers job to teach when in reality learning begins at home.
ReplyDeleteThank you Felicia for reading my post. Since you are a mother too, I am sure that you can understand how I feel that the parent is the first educator before a child reaches school age. In today's society, many parents have gotten lazy or they don't make the time to teach their child morals, values, and etc and they leave up to the teachers. That is why many teachers do not enjoy their profession because they have to play the role of mother/father, counselor, and teacher all at same time.
DeleteHi Erika, I enjoy your post and I remember my mother use to say there are two types of education, the one you learn at home and the one you learn at school. If we don't teach our children at home they will have a hard time in the real world. Sophia
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother was very "old fashioned" that way too. In a sense, my grandmother was very right. It takes a village to raise a child and the schools and jails are more of the educational institutions than the homes these days.
