Code of Ethics by the NAEYC and DEC

P-1.7—We shall strive to build individual relationships
with each child; make individualized adaptations in
teaching strategies, learning environments, and
curricula; and consult with the family so that each
child benefits from the program. If after such efforts
have been exhausted, the current placement does not
meet a child’s needs, or the child is seriously jeopardizing
the ability of other children to benefit from the
program, we shall collaborate with the child’s family
and appropriate specialists to determine the additional
services needed and/or the placement option(s)
most likely to ensure the child’s success. (Aspects of
this principle may not apply in programs that have a
lawful mandate to provide services to a particular
population of children.)

I believe this code is very important for educators to adhere because it is educators duties and responsibilities to make sure that each child in his or her classroom receive the same education as other individual children. We as educators are responsible for providing an environment where the children have access to a variety of resources and tools to help them grow academically in school. Also, communicating with the parents are key to ensure the child's success in the classroom.

I-2.3—To welcome all family members and encourage them to participate in the program.

I am happy that many schools and now child care centers or learning academies for preschoolers are now implementing parent/teacher conferences so that the teachers can meet with the parents and inform the parents about the academic progress of the child before they reach kindergarten or first grade. Having that one on one with the parents I believe is highly important to ensure the success of the child academic level later on.

P-3C.1—In decisions concerning children and programs, we shall draw upon the education, training, experience, and expertise of staff members.

I think that all staff members of a particular educational system should be entitled to voice their opinions, skills, training, and experience especially if it will benefit the children as a whole. I think when organizations are unified it teaches the children that teamwork is important for the success of any job or situation. Plus, when an organization are unified, it helps the educators, children, and families come together to provide an environment that is safe, positive, and trusting for everyone. I think each person has a talent or skill that they can share and it helps everyone. It does take a village to raise a child and takes a unified group of people to build a successful foundation.

Additional Early Childhood Resources

www.education.com-This is a great website for parents who are very dedicated and interested in their child's education. It provides school readiness tools from preschool age to college prep. I think teachers can use this website also because they have workbooks and worksheets you can print out or purchase to help facilitate learning in the classroom.

www.pbs.org-My son, Gabriel, watches PBS on a regular basis and he can tell you the name of every single show that comes on and he sings along to the show's theme song. So, I figure why not check out the website. This website has a lot of great ideas for teaching young children. They also offer other web site links for additional resources to help make learning more interesting and fun for kids.

www.abcjesuslovesme.com-This is my all time favorite website because I have found so many great ideas and methods to help me teach my son his colors, shapes, numbers, ABCs and learn about Jesus at the same time. Also, this website has a curriculum for ages 2-6 years.

www.preschoolplaybook.com-I really like this blog because there are posts that have wonderful ideas to plan and facilitate activities, learning tools, and tips for keeping preschool age to elementary age kids busy. I think teachers would enjoy this blog full of creative ideas.

Maria Montessori

“Plainly, the environment must be a living one, directed by a higher intelligence, arranged by an adult who is prepared for his mission.”

I feel that this quote speaks to educators and parents who are the biggest influencers in a child's life. As a parent or educator, you have to provide a positive learning environment in which the child can grow and learn and be productive. I am a mother and I feel that it is my job and mission to help guide my child and provide an environment in which he will receive the most available and best education provided. Once I become an educator, I have to treat my students the same way as I would treat my child. My mission will be to educate those who are willing to learn and also open doors to those who are not fortunate to receive a proper education elsewhere.

Louise Derman-Sparks Quote/Statement

While listening to Louise Derman-Sparks speaking in the Multimedia Program, she mentioned she loved working with children. She always wanted to be a teacher and when she received the opportunity to teach, she was asked to educate in a school that contained mostly low-income students. I really admired her strength, kindness, and care for teaching low-income students. She had a passion for working with African American, Latino, Asian American and other minority students. "They were a joy to her and she loved her job because they were grateful and eager to learn."

Quotes from Friedrich Wilhem Froebel and Jean Jacques Rousseu

"If three hundred years after my death my method of education shall be completely established according to its idea, I shall rejoice in heaven." - Friedrich Wilhelm Froebel

I suppose Friedrich Wilhelm Froebel is rejoicing in heaven because his ideology for introducing Kindergarten to the world of education is still in existence 200 years later.

“The real world has its limits; the imaginary world is infinite. Unable to enlarge the one, let us restrict the other, for it is from the difference between the two alone that are born all the pains which make us truly unhappy.”
― Jean-Jacques RousseauEmile: Or On Education

I believe this quote is true on the basis of childhood and adulthood. In the reality, as children grow and mature, they enter a world that tells or shows them how far they should or can grow. While a child, children are told they can dream big and that they are to attempt to fulfill their dreams.  Sometimes it is difficult or solely attainable to achieve goals that are far fetched especially if there is no basis for survival in the real world. Do we as adults feel that we are to put away our dreams because society say it is silly or unattainable?

Personal Childhood Web

These are the people who had the biggest impact in my life.

Grandma:  Her name is Bertha Frost. She is 83 years old. She lives in Memphis, Tennessee. She is a very kind, loving, caring, and lovable person. My grandmother raised me most of my life. The memories I cherish the most are the talks we used to have at the kitchen table. I could talk to my grandmother about everything and she wasn't judgmental or inconsiderate about my feelings. My grandmother was a supportive woman to all her children and grandchildren. She cooked a full dinner every night and everyone in the house had to sit at the dinner table. She is my heart. I graduated high school and college due to her support in succeeding to my highest degree.

Grandfather: His name is Willie Frost Sr. My grandfather passed away in December 2011. He was 81 years old. He was a man that believed in being right and doing the right thing regardless of circumstances. He would always preach to me about "we may all fall short, but at the end of the day make sure you do the right thing" all the time. My father was a religious man just like my grandmother. They went to church faithfully every Sunday unless they were ill. My grandfather is my biggest influence when it comes to attending church. He always encouraged me to attend church and as an adult I try to attend church services every Sunday. My  grandfather was a mechanic and he had a shop in his backyard. He taught me basic car maintenance skills and now I can change a battery in car, change fuses, and do small things to keep up the maintenance on a car thanks to him.

Aunt BJ: She was a huge disciplinarian and helped my grandparents raise me. She lived on and off with my grandparents a lot so she was always home. With having an adult home all the time, it prevented me from getting into all kinds of trouble. She was very strict, but she did attend most of my school activities, she shopped for me, and she taught me life skills.

Cousin Nikki: She is Aunt BJ's daughter and she was like a big sister to me. She is 13 years older than me and she helped my aunt take care of me and teach me about life. She also attended my school activities, shopped for me, and I went to her for advice when I felt like I couldn't talk to my grandparents or my aunt about school, boys, and etc. Also, she was the only cousin that attended college in my family so she inspired me to attend college.

Bestfriend Porsha:  Porsha is my childhood friend since kindergarden. She was always a person I could go and talk to about my problems and life in general. We were very close growing up. We went to the same elementary, middle, and high school. We went to the movies, skating rink, mall, and other places as kids. She is a caring, supportive, and funny person. I love her alot. Even though we are 3 hours away now, we still call each other and talk about everything like we used to do when we were kids.

Summer Internship Post Hurricane Katrina

http://www.tsukatrina.blogspot.com/

This was such an amazing internship that I was offered from my alumni school, Tennessee State University (Nashville, TN) a year after Hurricane Katrina damaged New Orleans, Louisiana in August 2005. Twenty-five college students were offered to help children in grade KK-6 who qualified for the summer program. I was partnered with three other classmates to teach the 3rd graders. I really enjoyed working with the children because they were eager to learn whatever I taught them. Also, we planned recreational activities for the children. I just wanted to share this with everyone. Please check out this link.

This is Me!!!

My Favorite Childhood Book

This same book my teachers read to me in kindergarden and first grade, I currently read this to my son, Gabe. He loves to talk about the trains and say choo-choo lol.

Welcome bloggers!

Hello Everyone,

I would like to welcome everyone to my first ever created blog. I am super excited about creating my own blog. I can add this to my list of new opportunities. Anyhow, yesterday was Halloween and I am sure many of the mothers went trick o treating with their kids or passed out candy to treaters. I took my 2 year old son, Gabriel and he had so much fun. This year he was Batman or the Dark Knight. Last year, he was a cute Lion. Times like these I love to cherish them because kids grow up so fast. For all the mothers I am sure you can relate. Well I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween and look forward to your posts.
